Our top notch dog teams are an important component in PEMO SAR The volunteer members of the Peninsula Disaster Response/Search and Rescue Team provide a very important service to the peninsula communities of Central Saanich, North Saanich and Sidney. The team is generally known as PEMO SAR. The members of the disaster response/search and rescue team are a dedicated group of men and women who train monthly in the techniques of wilderness and urban search and rescue. The training schedule at present involves a 1 1/2 - 2 hour meeting, the evening of the second Tuesday of the month followed by a training exercise on the next Saturday. This exercise generally takes about 3 - 6 hours starting at 9:00 am. Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) training is a Justice Institute of British Columbia certified course covering areas such as; Search Organization, Wilderness Navigation and Tactics. In addition, members receive training in First Aid, CPR, Communications (radio) and working with other groups such as the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Amateur Radio, Police and Fire Departments as well as other area Search and Rescue Teams.
